I was immediately taken in by the cover of Little Nothing by Marisa Silver. This cover was designed by Rachel Willey and you can read about the processes she used to create the end result here on Publisher’s Weekly.

It is a beautiful cover that has a lot of movement and a simple color palette that can be well-suited for an office or an evening affair.

I started with his beautiful Velvet Printed Blouse. The flattering V-neck line and simple print would be very versatile in any wardrobe. Then I paired it with a pair of Max Mara Cervo dark wash bootcut jeans. This flattering style and wash will be perfect for an evening out.

Add a simple MICHAEL KORS Jet Set Travel Medium Saffiano Leather Tote so that you have plenty of space for all your daily essentials and a pair of gold Chinese Laundry Leo T-Strap Dress Sandals.

For the accessories, I wanted a bit of movement and texture so I added a Gorjana DIY Mika Chain 3 Layer Set NecklaceAurélie Bidermann Gold-Plated Leaf Earrings, and a LeiVanKash Gold Feather Hand Cuff.

For the make-up I wanted to add a natural looking dramatic eye so I added a NARS Women’s Shimmer Eyeshadow and a Mac Fashion Pack Fluidline Pen to create a really dramatic line!

As a final finishing touch, use a Jamberry Nail Wrap for an unforgettable manicure.

The Book That Inspired the Look

29429934In an unnamed country at the beginning of the last century, a child called Pavla is born to peasant parents. Her arrival, fervently anticipated and conceived in part by gypsy tonics and archaic prescriptions, stuns her parents and brings outrage and disgust from her community. Pavla has been born a dwarf, beautiful in face, but as the years pass, she grows no further than the edge of her crib. When her parents turn to the treatments of a local doctor and freak sideshow proprietor, his terrifying cure opens the floodgates persecution for Pavla.

Little Nothing unfolds across a lifetime of unimaginable, magical transformation in and out of human form, as this outcast woman is hunted down and incarcerated for her desires, her body broken and her identity stripped away until her soul is strong enough to transcend all physical bounds. Woven throughout is the journey of Danilo, the young man entranced by Pavla, obsessed only with protecting her.

Part allegory about the shifting nature of being, part subversive fairy tale of love in all its uncanny guises, Little Nothing spans the beginning of a new century, the disintegration of ancient superstitions and the adoption of industry and invention. With a cast of remarkable characters, a wholly shocking and original story, and extraordinary, page-turning prose, Silver delivers a novel of sheer electricity.

Little Nothing by Marisa Silver is available for purchase on 9/13. You can order a copy through your local independent bookseller, Barnes & Noble, or Amazon.

    • You are absolutely right, I should credit the book designer. I’ve edited this post and posted a link to the Publisher’s Weekly article that describes the process of how she came up with the cover and I will be sure that I do that in future posts for this vertical.
